We had a fantastic two-night stay at this safari lodge. Chef Kimora's culinary skills amazed us with delicious crepe-style pancakes and more. Mahesh's warm conversations added a personal touch to our meals. The rooms offered stunning park views during sunrise and sunset. Any minor issues were swiftly resolved, and the staff's kindness made us feel like family. An exceptional experience that we can't wait to repeat. Five stars!

Lemala Nanyukie Lodge

Absolutely wonderful, can’t recommend highly enough. Outstanding service, wonderful rooms. Woken up at night to the roars of the lions. What more can you ask for?

We stayed at Lemala as part of our honeymoon and our expectations were pretty high. After we left this heavenly place they were exceeded by far. The lodge is beautiful but it’s the people behind it who make it to this marvelous place it is. Hassan is the best guide in the whole Serengeti for sure. Especially Lucy, Dennis, David and Emmanuel made us feel like royals and good friends at the same time. The whole team worked perfectly together to make our stay beyond perfect. Thank you so much and we are going to be back soon.

This place is AMAZING in terms of cleanliness, design and location. Everyone is very friendly. One thing to note: It is in the district of a lion, so during day and night time it is possible to have tet-a-tet which ist not for the fainthearted.

Why only 4 stars? Well, the reviews here seem to be very hipped by Americans (like 95% of the other guests) but to bring some perspective:

Unfortunatly, the restaurant does not live up to this standard. Food is in best case average (no spices/flavours; arrives usually lukewarm, not hot; no wow effect at any time among the three days), staff is not proberly trained (No idea about the ingredients; Wine arrives after food; No idea about the wine they offer; Espresso Martini is stirred instead of shaken etc). If you dont ask them to slow down the 3-course dinner is finished in 30-40min.

As this place is very expensive, I expect better.

We had the BEST TIME OF OUR LIVES at Lemala Nanyukie. I am not exaggerating, this was a dream come true in every way. The room was phenomenal, so clean and nice. The staff was the most friendly and supporting people I’ve ever met. Christina gives the best hugs and service, Josephat’s Dawa’s are amazing. Godwill is a joy to be around and Jackson protected us as he escorted us to our room. We became so close to the staff and they were so wonderful. The food was amazing, high quality and healthy with lots of variation. Cannot recommend this place enough, middle of Serengeti so wildlife paces through constantly. We had elephants come up to our plunge pool! The only place to stay in Serengeti. All of our friends and family want to come back with us!

The Facility as spectacular as is the service. While everyone at the Lodge made us feel at home a special "shout out" to Castro, who was a delight.

Serengeti Sametu Camp by Karibu Camps & Lodges

Along our safari through Tanzania we stayed at one of Karibu Camps other Sites as they have provided us with an exceptional service so far. While arriving at the Serengeti Sametu Camp I was unsure what to expect at first but when I saw what looked like an authentic safari camp I was relieved. As at the other camp the staff were extremely friendly and special attention was paid yet again to service and the food. The food was different each day and the quality was amazing. The rooms were quite large and made to look like tents. The beds were very comfortable as well. I highly recommend taking a safari guide in the area close to the Serengeti Semetu Camp if you want to see some of the Big 5 animals. We saw 10 lions close to camp, a cheetah, a Leopard and also elephants which walked past the hotel. Sometimes they even drink out of the pool which is a truly a rare occurrence. Unfortunately are stay was over after 3 days yet we would have liked to stay much longer. We are already planing our next trip to Serengeti Mara River Camp as the hospitality quality and service of Karibu Camps has truly convinced us that we are in safe hands.

The food is amazing. Cheff was so nice to give us a chocolate cake as I had a huge craving but all the food was outstanding.

Everything went well.  Check in was easy.  The staff was very helpful.  Quick getting in and the plane was on time and ready to go.  The flight to Zanzabar was  comfortable, and they served ice cream!  I would highly recommend this airport.

Small, cozy airport. Check-in was easy and quick. The waiting area offers enough space for all passengers.  There are small stores with souvenirs and snacks in the airport. And you will have a great view of the surrounding mountains.

It's a small airport for small planes but kudos a lot of improvement in infrastructure has been done, a lot of tourists use this airport to come to Arusha for  visiting national parks like ngorongoro manyara

For being such a tiny airport, we had a positive experience: fast check-in and security check, clean toilets, bar with drinks and snacks. It might be less pleasant on rainy days as the waiting room is basically in open air with just a roof.

We experienced a lot of mosquitoes here and surprisingly it was the only hotel we visited that didn't have mosquito nets around the beds. There is a pool here but other than that not a whole lot to do.

Hatari Lodge (Inside Arusha National Park)

We stayed for two nights. We arrived late in the evening and the friendly staff prepared a delicious soup for us. Staff was very friendly and the food delicious. The terrace offers a very nice view of a large plane right in front of it where you can see animals all day. The terrace also offers a great view of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. To fully appreciate the view you should bring good binoculars. The room was spacious and clean.

We stayed 2 nights at this lodge after arriving in Tanzania. Everything was great but there is a great potential to improve things to make the stay even better.
The water pressure of the shower could be improved + the water in the shower is very difficult to mix. Either it's too cold or too hot. You waste a lot of water finding the right "point"...
The floor of the shower is very slippery.
Could be roughened up to prevent slipping/accidents.
The room is very dark. There's just a few (and too dark) lamps. We had to use our flashlights to look for things in our suitcases. I normally love indirect, cozy, romantic lights, but this this was just too much "no light".
Carpets where nice but a constant stumbling hazard so we just rolled them up and placed them on the side.
We loved the chimney and the hot water bottles every night.

Within the Serengeti, transportation is usually provided by safari lodges or camps, with guided tours conducted in specially equipped safari vehicles perfect for navigating the park and observing wildlife.

Visitors to Tanzania, including those flying into Seronera Airstrip for a safari, must obtain a visa. This can be done upon arrival for many nationalities or in advance through Tanzania's e-visa system. Ensure your passport has at least six months validity beyond your planned stay. Applying for an e-visa in advance is advised to facilitate a smoother entry process, allowing more time to enjoy the Serengeti's natural beauty and wildlife.

Seronera Airstrip

Dirt/mud airstrip Centrally located in the middle of the Serengeti. Most locally operated airlines offer flights from a variety of air strips but mainly from JRO and Arusha which take about an hour. Planes that often land here vary from Cessna to Twin Otters to Dash. Within a 10 minute drive of the airstrip you can spot wildlife: hippos, birds and many other animals are also close by. Basic facility with bathrooms and security.

A basic airport in the middle of Serengeti. They needed to plan it a bit better with better amenities considering it serves an elite clientele. Maybe it is time for an upgrade considering the amount of flights it caters for?

It's okay for an "air strip." However, the coffee shop there isn't open when the clock was in the middle of the morning!
The staff members were very helpful as they helped us find our tour guide and brought our luggage directly to us.

What to Expect on an African Safari

Visited the second week of November and was nervous about how the weather would be with plenty of rain in the forecast, but I was pleasantly surprised about the blue skies despite there being clouds/rain in the forecast. It was definitely a worthwhile trip and the literal tens of thousands of animals that we saw was incredible.

Such an adventure! We saw most of the big five here. Lots of lions, gazelle, zebras, wildebeests and giraffes. So many animals and different types of nature to see and appreciate.

An amazing and thrilling experience. Not to be missed. It is a huge park with varied landscapes with awesome views and lots of wildlife. We spent five nights in the park and visited the Northern Central and Southern portions of the park. We saw the big five including the Gnu migration. Convenient picnic spots with restroom facilities are located in some areas of the park.

An amazing place. More animal sightings than imaginable.  Saw such a variety and quantity.  Many super close. Definitely would return.

By flight, Seronera Airstrip is the closest, with a 2-hour drive to the camp afterwards.

By road, the camp is approximately 6 hours away from Arusha.

Namiri Plains Camp

Exceptional camp - knowledgeable guides, incredible access to wildlife, luxe facilities, ecologically mindful practices, warm & responsive staff.

Wildlife: The game drives were incredible with our guide Ngiimba. He was patient and knowledgeable, ensuring we saw a wide variety of experiences - a herd of elephants drinking & a playful baby elephant, 10 lion cubs playing on a termite mound, cheetahs in search of a meal, a pride of lions hunting a wildebeest, a male lion devouring a kill, lions mating, a leopard resting in a tree, and many more.  I have been to the Serengeti before & was worried it would feel much of the same. On the contrary this experience was so much more incredible - we were able to get closer up to the animals, experience them in action, and all without competing with 15 other jeeps trying to see the same thing.  Ngiimba knew many of the individual animals’ histories and details about the species that answered every obscure question we asked.

Staff: Queen & Dickson - the camp managers - were always attentive, welcoming and ensuring we had everything we could dream of.  Their sense of humor and warmth made us feel like part of the family.  Jackson took care of us at every meal. All the staff were kind, responsive and ensured we had everything we needed and more.

Camp: beautifully decorated, felt like staying at a luxury hotel but with many great eco  friendly elements that helped minimize the impact on the environment (no plastic, reusable water bottles, solar power). Beds were comfortable, showers were hot with great views out into the bush. Small touches like blankets at dinner and hot water bottles in beds showed how much the staff anticipated our needs. The setting was fabulous, at most meals we would be looking out over the bush and watching multiple elephants drift through across the water, or see a group of baboons playing in a tree from our back deck. You feel both close to the nature you came to experience but with all the modern comforts of home.

Food: we were never hungry or thirsty - every meal was well cooked, wonderful variety. The sundowners overlooking elephants and breakfast in the bush were meals I’ll never forget. Great bar and cocktails you can take down to the fire to hang with other guests and watch the “bush tv”.

Can’t recommend this camp enough! Thank you to the amazing staff that cared for us - Ngiimba, Jackson, Queen, Dickson & everyone at Namiri - you gave us unforgettable memories and I can’t wait to come back again.

During our stay at Asilia Namiri Plains Camp, we had the privilege of witnessing nature's grandeur as we encountered all the big cats. We were fortunate enough to see lions with their adorable cubs, majestic cheetahs, and elusive leopards. To our surprise, we even spotted the rare and elusive serval cats, which added an extra layer of excitement to our safari adventure. The knowledgeable and dedicated staff, combined with the stunning views of the plains, made this experience truly remarkable. A special thank you to Keko for his exceptional guidance and expertise. Asilia Namiri Plains Camp exceeded our expectations in every way, and we highly recommend it for an unforgettable wildlife encounter.

Simply gorgeous lodge with a wonderful team. Justin our guide was phenomenal and we saw every animal possible including cheetah, lions and a leopard on our last day. Cannot recommend this wonderful lodge more highly!! The Serengeti takes your breath away!!

There aren't words adequate to describe the experience of Namiri Plains Camp. The camp itself is just gorgeous. I've stayed in plenty of high end properties, and my jaw hit the floor walking into our "tent" which was stylish, luxurious, and comfortable. Those who have stayed in safari caps before will appreciate: 1) the spacious shower had plenty of hot water and water pressure; 2) a hair dryer was provided; 3) the rooms contained a fan; and 4) the beds and bedding were very comfortable. The deep outdoor bathtub on the patio was a perfect spot to relax between game drives.

The best part of the camp - hands down - is the staff. As we drove up to the lodge, then entire staff was standing outside and greeted us with a welcome drink and welcome song. Dixon and Mohammed made us feel so welcome, and genuinely became friends with us and the other guests. They knew us by name and anticipated every need. I so enjoyed evenings by the fire chatting with them, and the departure sundowner party they held for us. Wake up service with coffee delivery each morning was such a luxury.

The camp provides its own guides, who are extremely familiar with the plains and the animals. We took game drives each morning and late afternoon. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. I enjoyed every minute spend with them. While we were excited just to see giraffes, elephants, oodles of lions, cheetahs, cape buffalo, zebras, topis, elands, gazelle, and a leopard, we equally enjoyed the time spent watching their behavior and learning about the various birds. One highlight was seeing a caracal thanks to the impossibly keen eyes of guide Keiko.

This camp is the experience of a lifetime. Go.

Stopped by with friends to have some dessert and explore the hotel. It’s very modern. Very clean. Unbelievable employees, especially the ones that work in the garden. They really took the time to educate us about all the different projects they have going on.

We started our 12 day trip in Tanzania with a stay at the beautiful Meliá Resort in Arusha. Our luggage was lost after several delays and a cancelled flight in Nairobi however the staff accommodated us and showed empathy during a frustrating time. After a long travel day we arrived around 2am and the staff washed our clothes for us/delivered them by 7am to accommodate us the best they could. The staff was attentive and the room/room service was incredible—even at 2am. we definitely recommend this resort! Thanks Meliá Team!

My husband and I stayed here while traveling through Tanzania with a group of friends. The room service was yummy, beds comfy, views amazing and the restaurant staff downstairs was so kind and helpful. The grounds are lovely and it’s well kept. A great and comfy stay before and after our safari through the Serengeti.

Perfect Safari beginning especially after a long flight. Rooms are clean, food amazing, views of the Meru mountains are wild and spectacular from the balcony of the rooms. You gotta upgrade for bigger rooms.

Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge

There are animals walking around the hotel grounds and it’s amazing.  comfortable rooms.  delicious and varied food.  in the evenings there is a concert and dancing.  There is a pool on site, but we didn’t swim because we were there in winter

This was our favourite of the Serena lodges we stayed in on our Safari honeymoon. The view from our room was incredible and we could hear the distant animals whilst in our room at night. There was entertainment in the evening, although the bar is quite small so in order to get a table you must get there early, the restaurant is very big with a huge buffet offering. We left early one morning for a balloon ride whilst it was still dark and I was amazed to see wild animals strolling around amongst the lodges. As we were on honeymoon, we had a fruit bowl left in our room which was a nice touch. The pool area was nice with a great view also however there is limited time for using the pool as you will most likely be out all day on the Safari drives.

I paid a very high price and had a very unpleasant experience. It was terrible. I definitely made a reservation at the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge and it was confirmed. However, on the afternoon of the reservation day, they said they had no space at Safari Lodge and would move our group to a better accommodation. And after going off-road for over an hour, we arrived at a tent, not a lodge. It was already dark and no further movement was possible, so they said we had no choice but to sleep there. So we had no choice but to sleep there, and they said they couldn't give us a refund since we had already slept there.

No matter how good the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is, even if you booked there, you could end up staying in a tent in another remote location. Even though its name is Serena, you should know that it is on a whole different level from the Safari Lodge you chose. I wouldn't want to take that risk again. What's even more problematic is that this isn't the first time this has happened, and it happens often.

I would say that paying big money and booking Serena Lodge is a bit of a risk.

The lodge features 66 guest rooms, including a suite, triple rooms, twin rooms, double rooms, and rooms equipped for physically challenged guests. Each room has a balcony overlooking the Mbingwe Valley, offering guests a private view of the Serengeti's vast landscapes. Room amenities include room service, standing fans, telephone and free Wi-Fi, with the suite also offering satellite TV. Additional comforts such as mosquito nets, hair dryers, and tea/coffee making facilities ensure a comfortable stay.
