Two things amazed me: the new modern terminal and the double runway. Unfortunately, I flew from the old terminal which was a mess. We had to wait on long queues for long and when eventually in, the staff weren't organised enough and check in wasn't smooth, took so long that it wore us out. The waiting lounge wasn't big enough too. The airport has good flight turnover but that particular terminal didn't have much shops.

This was a very busy airport to travel through. Be aware that you need a visa before coming unless you want to pay $100 to get one on arrival.

There is a fair currency exchange in the baggage claim area if you arrive during standard business hours. That was nice. There is a taxi hire board right when you walk outside if you need to get anywhere. The prices are quite high and seem to be non-negotiable. We used them to get up past stone town a little ways for about $45. Not too bad.

On departure please plan to arrive at least 3 hours early. I'm glad we did. We got stuck in an extra hour of traffic on our "45 minute" drive in. Also, they have a security check in before you check your bags and get your tickets. Then they have another security check. Then you have a customs desk where you must fill out a paper form.

After all that, you can sit in a non-air conditioned waiting area until your plane is ready to board.

It was cool to walk out on the tarmac to such a massive plane.

It's probably one of the best public buildings in Zanzibar!

There is a little of everything in there..free wi-fi, AC, small eating area, duty free, souvenir shop, clean toilets (in general clean and new building).

We came to Melia Zanzibar to spend our honeymoon there. It was magical. This hotel is absolutely beautiful but above all is the service: just perfect. The staff is highly professional and kind, always with a big smile on their face, they make you feel at home. The food was delicious. However I’d like to make a special mention to Jacob from the recreation team. He made our holidays so special and unique. We will never forget how he amazingly took care of us. We can say that we came back home with a friend. We will definitely come back if we have the opportunity to. Thanks a million. It was the most perfect holidays ever.

Talk about Paradise.  This 5-mile property offers everything you need.  Villas, Rooms, Houses, Beach, Bar, etc.  I would come back here again and again.  The service by the staff was just incredible.  They were kind and pleasant to all of us during our visit.

The most wonderful place ever. But dont be fooled by "all inclusive". Alot of food or drinks is for additional cost. And the first thing they require before even letting you in is writing down your bank card number for "safety reasons" which was the most unsafe feeling for us. We visited 2 other hotels who had real all inclusive and never required to write down band card number.

Excellent hotel, management, service, location and gardens. The only blemish of our stay is that my ear pods went missing from the room by the end of our stay, I thought that a rather low value item wouldn't attract friends but unfortunately it was not the case.

The hotel is unique with old style architectural detail consistent with Stone Town. The lobby and public areas are well decorated with vintage furnishing and pictures/art.  Our room was excellent a real retreat. The staff was very helpful with reservations and directions. Would recommend for visiting Zanzibar.

We had booked this hotel after several days in Zanzibar due to its location. I had received the confirmation email the previous day and when we arrived, we were told that they were fully booked. Excuse me? So from a 4 stars paid hotel, we were invited to move to another hotel of the same owner (3 stars) but far from the desired location. Jafferji hotel had 24h to let us know the problem of our booking but never bothered to let us know. This is the reason of my disappointment with this hotel. The recepcionist, when he saw our disappointment, offered us free lunch or dinner at Jafferji. We had a lovely dinner at the top roof restaurant which had great views.

The staff are just the nicest , big shout out to Sam, who helped me get around and showed me the way around the place and was very tolerant with my breakfast. Even after I would show up late, he would always find a way to accommodate me and serve me everything I needed.

I love it might stay here, and I am very sad that it was only for two days

The rooms are big , the Wi-Fi works. I don’t understand why everyone says that it doesn’t. It worked perfectly fine for me. As soon as you get there, you’ll get your Wi-Fi username and password and you can start connecting immediately.

The view in the terrace is to die for its view of all of Stonetown , the breakfast is nice, and the staff made my state more enjoyable

One thing I was worried about is the security because I arrived late at night  (3 am) and the hotel is very traditional like, but that soon went away after my first night and my first stay there, securities, 24/7 staff are reachable 24/7, and I am a very messy person, so I would also always leave my stuff scattered around and would come to find them in their exact position untouched. I definitely recommend this place. It’s also very magical in the morning. I’ll leave you some pictures to see.

The manager and staff are incapable of fulfilling small tasks and takes them days of misleading lies.

I would recommend to overlook this hotel and it's group completely as they have an absolute lack of communication.

I went out if season so the hotel was quiet. Rooms are serviced daily and amenities are good. Hotel is on the beach and the tide goes far out each day but comes right up to the hotel in the afternoons. Lovely authentic good sized rooms and all staff are attentive and polite. Very good security.

Trio: Reception person, person with mosquito repellent & security are hand in hand for scamming tourists with fake dollar bills. There is no such thing as "locked door" to your room, your belongings are their belongings at the right time(a small trick can open your door anytime). Video footage with thief scheme on my go pro handed to embassy. Reported to police,  police knows about it and does not recommend the place either. It seems that people are aware and avoid the place (90% of their rooms are empty).-5 stars

The beach has amazing views of the ocean. The local staff are really nice and the rooms are clean. The hotel is some km from the port but easily accessible. Breakfast wasnt that good n we couldn't get hot water in the bathroom on the first day. But on the second day we got warm water and really nice breakfast.

We loved our visits to the park.  It is a path less trodden than some of the other parts of Tanzania.  The result is a feeling of space and the randomness of the natural world.  It is not entirely a neatly packaged and commercial place, piled high with wealthy tourists in designed safari gear and it is all the better for that.  Maybe it will move in that direction eventually, when the road from Dar is completed (if it is ever completed!).  My advice would be to get there before then.

We had a wonderful experience in the park! We saw lions, wildebeests, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and many other animals and plants. What an incredible experience!

Rufiji River Camp

The camp was more than what we had originally budgeted but well worth it. The professional staff provided several options for touring including vehicle, boat, and foot.  The hostess was attentive but not intrusive. The guides were professional and knowledgable. We had an interest in birds: the guides (and bar tender) were knowledgable in this area.The food was first class and the kitchen staff  friendly. The rooms and pool were cleaned daily. The unheated pool became a must. Daily laundry service was provided at no extra cost. We stayed four nights and would recommend three nights minimum.

Honestly I had one of the most magical and special times of my life staying here. The staff were so kind and genuine. The Banda we slept it was beautiful and the each morning we work up to a sympathy of birds singing. The food was also excellent and different than the day before! The safari tours were magical and the guides were excellent

What’s not to love about this Safari lodge? Rooms are amazing. Wild animals at night! Food is delicious and well presented. Staff are very attentive. The Safari drives are great especially the all day ones. Great sunsets. Lots of hippos and crocs on the river.

The staff made our honeymoon safari a real magical experience. The attention to detail, their kindness, the quality of the safari guides (Katankara & Emmanuel - thank you again), the food is absolutely delicious, the views are to die for. We stayed here for 2 nights for our honeymoon for a safari trip. Overall we would wholeheartedly recommend the Rufiji River Camp without question. It is worth the money. 10/10.
In terms of service, it really was the best service we've had on any vacation anywhere. The staff were all helpful, friendly, welcoming and obvously wanted to make our stay special. We had mentioned it was our honeymoon, and they really pulled out the stops to make it extra special.
In terms of the safari experiences, they really were amazing. We went in with no expectations because it was our first safari, but we were blown away. The jeeps were comfortable, we were in small groups (or solo), the guides were exceptionally knowledgable, and asked us what we wanted to see, and the scenery was incredibly. You can't guarantee what you'll see, but we saw most of the famous african animals you'd expect.
In terms of food - it was all freshly cooked meals which were absolutely delicious. I looked forward to every meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner. 9/10.
Location and scenery of the hotel - you can't get better. You're right in the nature reserve, so you can get out and see the animals when they're most active at sunrise. Also, the view from the restaurant/chill out area is mind blowing - looking out over the river you can see hippos and crocodiles resting (far below - so don't worry). In terms of room and state of the camp - again 10/10. The "tent" completely surpassed our expectations. It was comfortable, spacious, clean, stylish. We wished we could have had more time just to relax in the room. The bathroom facilities was also nice, clean and a pleasure to spend time in.
